The European Commissioner in Charge of Transport, Violeta Bulc, Visits Turkey

Bulc is expected to have a meeting with Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, Minister of the Interior Süleyman Soylu, and Minister of Transport Ahmet Arslan

Bulc: "My second visit to Turkey in less than a year is another confirmation of our efforts with the strategic partner of the EU. Turkey is turning into a leading country in global aviation industry with the third airport in İstanbul, which is striking for its fast construction process. The EU Aviation Agreement will enable Turkey to join a larger joint field of aviation in Europe. This agreement may provide a revenue up to €5 billion."

The European Commissioner in Charge of Transport, Violeta Bulc, came to Turkey on April 19, 2018 (today). Bulc is expected to have a meeting with Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and the Minister of the Interior Süleyman Soylu today, and the Minister of Transport Ahmet Arslan tomorrow.

As can be remembered, we reported that the European Commissioner in Charge of Transport would visit Ankara in the second half of April to discuss the IPA2 agreement with the UDH Minister Ahmet Arslan and announce the IPA2 with the Minister  TEBA:1861/ April 3, 2018

Bulc made the following written statement about her visit:

"Turkey is a country with a deep-rooted history and a profound culture that is important for us Europeans for not only our common history but also our current and future potential. My second visit to Turkey in less than a year is another confirmation of our efforts with the strategic partner of the EU. The EU and Turkey have common future interests, expectations and challenges.

Turkey and the EU have worked intensively on transportation and mobility for years. Our future cooperation has a great potential on several matters such as highway safety, urban mobility and decarbonization of transportation. Turkey has taken impressive steps to enhance its economy in the last decade. Turkish cities have turned into bustling life and business centers. However, development has also increased the traffic in cities, reduced air quality, and undermined economic accessibility. Turning into a critical hub, İstanbul needs innovative and carbon-free transportation systems to become a faster, safer and cleaner city.

Moreover, Turkey is turning into a leading country in global aviation industry with the third airport in İstanbul, which is striking for its fast construction process. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the EU to support Turkey for its objectives in this field and improve our current aviation relationship to ensure that Turkey attains more significant objectives. The EU Aviation Agreement will enable Turkey to join a larger joint field of aviation in Europe. This agreement may provide a revenue up to €5 billion, reduce ticket prices by 50 percent, and create about 48,000 jobs."
