The Competition Authority Is Assigned Further Functions

The Minister of Customs and Trade, Bülent Tüfenkci, said: "We aim to make more contributions to the business world of Turkey with a new effort that will increase the functions of the Competition Authority or reorganize it."

The Minister of Customs and Trade, Bülent Tüfenkci, led the opening ceremony of the representative agency of the Competition Authority in İstanbul with Ömer Torlak, the President of the Competition Authority.

Stating in his speech that they consider it important to reorganize the the Competition Authority and to address its failing aspects, Tüfenkci said: "These issues may enter the national agenda in the upcoming period".

Stating that they wanted to help the economy grow in every respect, and acted with the intention to facilitate private sector and entrepreneurship to the greatest extent possible, Tüfenkci told that they supported Turkish business world and entrepreneurs, making necessary regulations to help them to attract capital and foreign partners to Turkey as they did in the past.

Stating that they took necessary measures to prevent emergence of monopolistic markets, Tüfenkci emphasized that they considered the Competition Authority important for emergence of a single price or excessive prices, which may require that the powers of the Competition Authority may have to be extended. Tüfenkci said: "We want Competition Authority to act as a referre in a sense".
