Prizes for Contracting Activities Abroad Presented

President Erdoğan: "In recent years, countries in close proximity of Turkey are in serious difficulties. Our businessmen operating in crisis regions, particularly our contractors are under the negative impact of these developments. We create new opportunities as the State for supporting you. Turkey Assets Fund will extend serious support to projects of our contractors."

TMB Chairman Yenigün said, "We plan to increase our share in international contracting cake to 7% from current 4.6%, annual new project cost to USD 50 billion. But, we have a long way to go ahead.”

At the ceremony organized by Turkey Union of Contractors under the sponsorship of Ministry of Economy also participated by President Tayyip Erdoğan, plates have been presented to 39 Turkish contracting companies took place in 2016 list of “Biggest 250 International Contractors of the World” released by International construction sector magazine ENR (Engineering News Record) on the basis of revenues attained by contractors from their activities abroad in previous year.

President Erdoğan noted, “Our companies assumed about USD 340 billion projects until now, have contributed a lot to our economy and led the way” and went on to say,

"We do not consider our contractors to assume projects only an economic activity. Every company of us, rising Turkish flag on its work site is the representative of our country. Our contractor companies has put and continued to put signature on very important projects particularly in near geography. Still, we lag far behind the place that we should actually be in respect of our potential. In recent years, countries in close proximity of Turkey are in serious difficulties. Our businessmen operating in crisis regions, particularly our contractors are under the negative impact of these developments. We all know the difficulties experienced.

We create new opportunities as the State for supporting you. For instance, we put a new establishment into service which I believe to contribute to solving guarantee issue in big tenders. Turkey Assets Fund will contribute to projects of our contractors in real sense. You just take a step, be sure that State will approach you by folds."

Turkey Union of Contractors Chairman Mithat Yenigün said, “Activities of Turkish contractors in abroad for 45 years is an impressive success story. Our companies have realized about 9 thousand projects in 114 countries of the world exceeding USD 340 billion” .

"Because of the geopolitical issues in main markets of the Sector, the annual amount of new projects assumed by Turkish contractors receded to USD 10 billion in 2016"

Noting Sector passes through a difficult period because of the global economic uncertainty, Yenigün said,

“Under the impact of tightening global liquidity conditions and geopolitical issues, international construction market’s magnitude receded to USD 500 billion in 2015 from USD 550 billion in 2013. In the same process, annual cost of new projects assumed by Turkish contractors abroad receded to USD 10 billion in 2016 from USD 25-30 billion. This is mostly originated from the geopolitical problems in main markets of the sector.

In parallel to growth in global market and recovery in good prices, international contracting services magnitude foreseen to reach USD 750 billion in 2030 from current USD 500 billion. We plan to increase our share in international contracting cake to 7% from current 4.6% by 50% increase, annual project cost to USD 50 billion. But, we have a long way to go ahead.”

As it might be recalled, we had presented the list of 39 Turkish companies in the list of ENR TEBA:1804/ February 21, 2017. First three companies were, Polimeks İnşaat, Renaissance Construction and ENKA İnşaat.
