Siemens is in Turkey since 160 Years

Chairman of the Board and CEO of Siemens Turkey Hüseyin Geliş: “We are in Turkey since 160 years. Siemens has always been a company that grew, changed and developed in line with Turkey. We have never considered leaving Turkey under any circumstances. Products, solutions and services supplied by Siemens in Turkey display a diversification from energy to the industry and from health to infrastructure and transportation”…

Chairman of the Board and CEO of Siemens Turkey Hüseyin Geliş made important disclosures on the Turkey leg of Siemens, while Siemens Turkey celebrates its 160th anniversary this year.

Geliş said, “We are in Turkey since 160 years and we have become a ‘Turkish company with German roots’ as Siemens that has activities in Turkey. Siemens was the only company that did not close down its office in Turkey even during the 2nd World War. The company came to Turkish soil only after 9 years following its establishment upon seeing the opportunities in the region. It was then being situated as the third region where Siemens invested after Britain and Russia besides Germany. The history of Siemens in Turkey starts with the providing of the first telegraph apparatus by Siemens & Halske in 1856. The first corporate office of Siemens & Halske was opened in Istanbul in 1907. Siemens has since then been a company that grew, changed and developed in line with Turkey.

Companies that arrive these days may have probable concerns. But we also talk to them as well and relate our trust in Turkey. We have never considered leaving Turkey under any circumstances. I will be in Germany next week and we will tell them about our trust in Turkey”.

Geliş continued as follows: “Products, solutions and services supplied by Siemens in Turkey display a diversification from energy to the industry and from health to infrastructure and transportation. We have activities in all of the 9 groups of activities. Also, ‘Siemens Financial Services (SFS)’ has activities in Turkey. The most important reason how Siemens has achieved success until date is trust and sustainability.”

Turkey can realize digital transformation”

Hüseyin Geliş giving information on future plans, said that he believes that Turkey can realize digital transformation, and that the infrastructure that will be founded in line will provide a basis for Industry 4.0, and that there is no other country in the region that can provide this.

Geliş made the following statement: “Our studies are underway to introduce the vision in Turkey and to determine the country strategies in line with Industry 4.0 which was on the agenda in Germany in 2013. We have undertaken the pioneering of the matter in Turkey as Siemens. For instance, we organized a meeting titled ‘What is Industry 4.0?’ targeting the industry related press only 10 months after Germany put the matter on the agenda in February 2014. We were on the field as of October 2015 and gave information on ‘What is Industry 4.0?’ by means of over 40 events including establishments such as universities. We have already planned more than 20 events as of now. We have also exchanged views with the public. We made a visit to the then Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri Işık in December 2015. Science and Technology Supreme Council disclosed that decision was taken on giving start to national studies on Industry 4.0. We have put into life www.endustri4.0.com, Industry 4.0 Platform sponsored by Siemens Turkey.”

Industry 4.0 was used as a terminology as a denotation for the 4th Industrial Revolution for the first time in 2011 in Hannover Fair in Germany. Countries and companies had to cope with changes in the global scale upon remarkable industrial revolutions in the production sector and have developed certain strategies to be able to sustain their competitiveness. Industry 4.0 which was developed in Germany is the name of one of these strategies.
