Minister of Environment and Urbanisation Fatma Güldemet Sarı signed the Paris Climate Agreement on behalf of Turkey. Sarı, emphasizing that the real challenge would be translating these commitments to action, stated as follows:

“Success of the agreement will depend on completion of the relevant undertakings with adequate funding and technology transfer. In this regard, developed countries should meet their responsibilities in terms of providing the means to transition to low carbon and climate resilient world economy. This is also an important issue for my own country. I would like to underline that Turkey signed the Paris Agreement as a developing country and shall effect its national contribution accordingly.

Turkey declared that the country will reduce the greenhouse emissions from its current value down to 21 percent by the year 2030. Turkey expects the due recognition of the country’s specific conditions as accepted in the Conference of the Parties and thus have the country’s access to climate funding and technology transfer made easier. This is crucial in ensuring efficient implementation of our national contribution”.
