PowerHaul Locomotives of Turkish Locomotive & Engine Inc. (TÜLOMSAŞ) Are Delivered to Körfez Ulaştırma A.Ş.

Körfez Ulaştırma A.Ş., a subsidiary of Tüpraş having activities in the railway transportation sector which began railway transportation two years ago upon obtaining a license to use main lines of TCDD and which is the first private railway operator in Turkey has been delivered five diesel-electrically operated PowerHaul® series locomotives produced with the cooperation of TÜLOMSAŞ – Wabtec. The company will provide a more rapid and efficient transportation of products between Tüpraş refineries and related fuel terminals by means of the five new locomotives.

Diesel-electrical locomotives have been manufactured at Eskişehir factory of TÜLOMSAŞ which is the strategic regional partner of Wabtec, the US based railway equipment producer. Wabtec supplied the technology and designs of the products and TÜLOMSAŞ realized the local production, assembly works and final tests.

Körfez Ulaştırma A.Ş. had disclosed the order made for the production of locomotives during the InnoTrans Fair in September 2018. The fleet of Körfez Ulaştırma A.Ş. which consisted of 5 leased locomotives has now doubled in size upon the delivery.

PowerHaul® series locomotives displaying performance at highest levels and consisting of medium weight locomotives is in conformity with BA Evre IIIa emission conditions and TSI interoperability standards. The locomotives featuring state of the art technology and common-rail fuel injection systems, operating on high electrical power equipped with 3700 HP PowerHaul P16 engines with 16 cylinders provide a fuel saving of 18 percent. They also provide a high level of safety and tow power by means of an AC tow control technology and individual axis control characteristics.

Tufan Başarır noting that they have enhanced the power and efficiency of logistic activities in line with the expansion of operations, spoke as follows: “We will be able to respond to the needs of our customers in a more efficient manner by transporting our products from our refineries and fuel terminals in a more efficient and rapid manner upon addition of the five new locomotives to our fleet.”

Gökhan Bayhan, Director General of Wabtec’s Russia, Commonwealth of Independent States, Middle East and North Africa Region spoke as follows: “We have a business partnership in Turkey extending to years. As Wabtec, we will also provide necessary support and technical expertise for the locomotives to provide services in the best manner during their life cycle once they are put into operation.”
