Deep water pipe laying and construction process in TurkStream Natural Gas Pipeline to carry Russian gas to Turkey and Europe, under the Black Sea has started officially on June 23, 2017 in the course of visit of Head of State of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to “Pioneering Spirit” ship.

Calling President Erdoğan, Putin reportedly said, "Construction process started after 7 months period. The level of Turkish-Russian cooperation is much higher than that of many countries. Administrative approval process in the Works conducted with other countries continue for years, however we conclude subject processes within few months. Gazprom Executive Board Chairman Miller, "Construction of TurkStream will significantly enhance the energy security in the region"

Gazprom Executive Board Chairman Alexey Miller said, “A tough work starts for “Pioneering Spirit”, the biggest construction ship of the world. Ship will construct deep water section of TurkStream Natural Gas Pipeline. This is the safe route for shipping Russian natural gas to Turkey and in the future to Southern and Southeastern Europe. Natural gas is an energy source of note for Turkey. 38% of electricity energy of Turkey generated on natural gas. Over 12 million household use natural gas. Construction of TurkStream will significantly enhance the energy security in the region. Natural gas’s importance for Southern and Southeastern Europe is of importance. We have reasons to foresee that decrease of natural gas production in Europe and neccessity of decreasing the share of coal in the field of energy, demand for natural gas in Balkan countries will further increase in the forthcoming period.”
