Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikaşvili Meeting

Delegation headed by Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has visited Georgia and attended Turkey-Georgia High Level Strategic Cooperation Council. In the course of visit, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Project has been reviewed

Yıldırım, "This middle corridor to connect Caucasus to Central Asia to Far East, to London via Anatolian soil, in other word, direct connection of historical Silk Way again, is of very importance for the region from strategical perspective."

Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikaşvili, “We do our best for starting the project, test runs will continue in Summer months, project will start in Autumn. This project exceeded the regional scale for sure."

Turkish Delegation headed by Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has visited Georgia and attended Turkey-Georgia High Level Strategic Cooperation Council. In the course of visit, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikaşvili came together and made noteworthy statements.

Commenting on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Project, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said, "This project is not only the concern of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, but also of Europe and Far East. Realization of kervan roads, called Silk Way served from east to west from south to north for centuries, as modern railways on current technology today, revitalization of trade along the route from China to London is targeted. We talk about a project to further develop the relations of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey."

Communicating subject three countries are primarily responsible of changing the future of the region and transportation culture, Yıldırım has noted that Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, China, Europe and Balkan countries participated in the project indirectly. Prime Minister Yıldırım has underlined that this project, meeting cultures and improving East and West economy jointly would be realized within this year.

Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikaşvili

Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikaşvili has reminded in his speech that this was the 25. Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Georgia and said,“Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Project will enhance the competition capacity in Europe-Asia connection, cooperation in respect of deepening the southern energy corridor and transferring the Caspian Sea resources to West have been considered”. Kvirikaşvili went on to say on the project,

"Improvement of this Railway Project, establishment of such connections, is already an important feature of Silk Way. It was already stated and reflected in the documents. We have intensive cooperation with the Turkish authorities. For not experiencing delay in the project with Azerbaijan and for completing the process rapidly, we work hard. In this context, we do our best for starting the project, test runs will continue in Summer months, project will start in Autumn. This project exceeded the regional scale for sure."

Georgia Prime Minister has noted that although Turkey was an important trade partner of Georgia, right potential could not be used yet and underlined that expansion of coverage of Free Trade Agreement would serve to benefits of the two countries in respect of using this potential. Reminding Turkey supports Georgia in the international arena, Kvirikaşvili has also noted that the cooperation in the fields of defense and security would be maintained.

Agreements signed between Turkey and Georgia

Agreements have been signed between Turkey and Georgia in the fields of culture, justice, economy and syber defense beside the Tbilisi Communiqué. In Tbilisi, Joint Cooperation Procedure has been signed between Ministries of Justice of Turkey and Georgia, Communiqué pertaining to establishment of Joint Economic and Trade Commission between Republic of Turkey and Republic of Georgia, a Cooperation program in the field of Culture between the governments of Turkey and Georgia Georgia , Cooperation Communiqué pertaining to Syber Security Cooperation between Georgian Ministry of Justice and Turkey Ministry of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communication has been signed as well.

As it might be recalled, we reported that Turkish Delegation composed of Director Generals of some institutions like TCDD and AYGM, participated by Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs (UDH) Ahmet Arslan, would visit Georgia on May 23-24, 2017 and after concluding the talks on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Project, would cross to Beijing on May 25-26, 2017 to hold discussions with Chinese Technical Delegation TEBA:1816/ May 17, 2017.
