Conference on Economic Relations between Turkey and China in the Perspective of Belts and Highways

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ankara Hongyang, “An amount of $ 900 billion is expected to be spent for the belts and highways project. Chinese companies are also presently in close follow-up for the 3rd nuclear power plant of Turkey.”

The meeting titled “Economic Relations between Turkey and China in the Perspective of Belts and Highways” organized jointly by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ankara and the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) is realized on April 9, 2017 at the TOBB-ETÜ campus.

A Summit will be held in Beijing, the capital city of China hosting the leaders of 65 countries, on the dates of May 14 & 15 on the Silk Road Project starting from China and encompassing the Middle Eastern and South Asian countries, Turkey and the Mediterranean Seaports on the South and Moscow on the North. President of the Republic Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will also participate in the summit.

As will be recalled, we reported that negotiations were conducted between TCDD officials and the Railway Delegation of the People’s Republic of China that visited Ankara prior to the official visit planned to be made to China by President of the Republic Erdoğan in May. An agreement on railway cooperation was expected to be signed between Turkey and China during the summit TEBA:April 7, 2017.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asia-Pacific Director General Ambassador Ersin Erçin, “All of the investments designed in different countries for the Modern Silk Road will later on be integrated with projects in Turkey. China attributes great importance to Turkey’s partnership in the project for this reason.”

On the other hand, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Ankara Yu Hongyang noting that considerable cooperation opportunities will be put into life between the two countries at the Summit, said “An amount of $ 900 billion is expected to be spent for the belts and highways project. Such a clear statement is very important for China. China is ready to cooperate with Turkey in tourism and economy. A Chinese bank will open a branch office in Turkey. Both parties will also be in cooperation in the renewable energy field. We are acting together with Turkey in projects encompassing all areas in energy. We are experienced in works such as nuclear power and natural gas storage facilities. We will further develop and extend our cooperation. Chinese companies are also presently in close follow-up for the 3rd nuclear power plant of Turkey.”
