Unemployment Ratio Reached 10.9% in 2016

In the OVP, unemployment ratio was targeted to be 10.5% in 2016. Male unemployment ratio was calculated to be 9.6%, female unemployment ratio to be 13.7%. Unemployment ratio among youngsters of 15-24 age group is 19.6%, however, of 15-64 age group this ratio reached 11.1%

Turkey Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced "Labor Force Statistics 2016" data. Accordingly, unemployment ratio increased 0.6 points in 2016 in comparison with previous year to reach 10.9%. The number of unemployed Turkey-wide has increased 273 thousand to reach 3 million 330 thousand in comparison with previous year. Male unemployment ratio has been 9.6%, female unemployment ratio has been 13.7%.

In 2015, unemployment ratio was announced as 10.3%, number of unemployed 3 million 57 thousand. In Medium Term Program, the unemployment ratio was foreseen  to be 10.5% for 2016.

Young unemployment ratio is 19.6%

Unemployment ratio among youngsters of 15-24 age group is 19.6%, however, of 15-64 age group this ratio reached 11.1%. In the period under review, number of employed people reached 27 million 205 thousand, employment ratio has been 46.3%. The male ratio has been 65.1%, female ratio 28%. 19.5% of the employed is in agricultural sector, 19.5% in industry, 7.3% in construction sector and 53.7% in Services sector.

In 2016, labor force has been 30 million 535 thousand people, ratio of participation to labor force has been 52%. Ratio of male participation to labor force has been 72%, ratio of female participation to labor force 32.5%.

According to TÜİK's calculation made by dividing Turkey into 12 regions, the highest unemployment ratio has been seen in Southeastern Anatolia as 18.7%, the lowest ratio in Eastern Black Sea as 4.5%.

As for the share of employed people in industrial sector, the region with the highest ratio has been "Bursa, Eskişehir, Bilecik" with 41.7%, which is followed by "Tekirdağ, Edirne, Kırklareli" with 38.1% and "Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, Yalova" with 36.3%. The region with lowest share of industrial sector has been "Erzurum, Erzincan, Bayburt" with 10.7%.
