DHMİ, İstanbul 3rd Airport Project

İGA Havalimanı İşletmesi A.Ş. chooses the Swedish company Saab for installation of the technical infrastructure of the Airport

İGA Havalimanı İşletmesi A.Ş., the company that will operate the 3rd Airport Project, has reported that it will commission the Sweden-based defense and security company Saab for building the integrated air traffic control tower system of the Airport.

It is also noted that Saab will supply Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SGMCS) that includes direction and guidance of aircraft, airport ground illumination control and monitoring, electronic flight strips, a wide array of multi-layer sensors, and five SR-3 Surface Motion Radars. According to the statement made by Saab, the system will cover the first stage of the Airport that will include three runways.

As can be remembered, Ahmet Arslan, the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication made the following statement about the project: "We have achieved 42 percent completion in construction works. 23 thousand workers are working around the clock. The number of workers will be 30 thousand by spring. The first runway is now completed. The terminal has started to form. We will open the first part that will serve 90 million passengers in the first half of 2018 TEBA:1801/ February 3, 2017.

IGA Executive Committee Member Uğur Cengiz: "It is one of its kind in this size and complexity in the whole world"

Uğur Cengiz, Member of IGA Executive Committee, also underlined that the integrated tower and surface movement ability of Saab would be "one of its kind in this size and complexity in the whole world".

Pointing out that the New Airport in İstanbul is one of the world's largest airport projects, Mike Gerry, Head of Air Traffic Management at Saab, said: "Such challenging operations are where our systems stand out".

It is learned that State Airports Authority (DHMİ) has signed agreements with Saab for the technical infrastructure of 4 airports so far.
