Siemens and Bombardier Have Met Companies from Bursa for High Speed Train Production in Turkey

Firms based in Bursa made on-site studies at the production plants of Siemens and Bombardier in Austria within the scope of Rail Systems UR-GE Project

A condition of 51 percent local production is being imposed in all projects in Turkey and particularly the metro tender in Istanbul. We are in need of local suppliers. We will initially make an investment of € 80 million in Turkey”

Companies that are preparing for the tender for 96 High Speed Train Sets which will be announced by TCDD with a condition of 51 percent local production in the near future are also making their production plans in Turkey.

It has been learnt that Turkish companies based in Bursa which is one of the largest industrial cities in Turkey and where rail system vehicles and equipment are being manufactured, have conducted on-site studies at the production plants of Siemens and Bombardier in Austria within the scope of Rail Systems UR-GE Project.

Sales Manager of Siemens Christoph Masopust having met Turkish companies and noting that Siemens is seeking a new investment model that will support their production in Vienna, spoke as follows: “Our factory started to lose its competitive power due to a valuation in Euro and due to other factors. We plan to make an investment abroad which will support our production in this factory.” Masopust also pointing out to the industrial past and potential of Bursa, said “Bursa is accustomed to the repressive production speed of the automotive industry. The city also claims a considerable market share in the rail systems sector.”

Masopust reminding that a condition of 51 percent local production is being imposed in all projects in Turkey and particularly the metro tender in Istanbul, said that they are in need of local suppliers. Masopust also stated that they will initially make an investment of € 80 million in Turkey.

On the other hand, Bombardier Light Rail Vehicles Department Head Marcus Pfaff having met companies from Bursa and noting that they closely follow Bursa, said that there are already firms in Bursa with which they are in cooperation. Pfaff pointing out to an increase in the number of projects in Turkey, stated that the condition of local participation will reflect to the Turkish industry and engineering in a positive manner. Pfaff stating that they are seeking investment partners as Bombardier, added that they are open to new cooperation opportunities with companies from Bursa.
