Minister of Transport, Maritime and Telecommunication Ahmet Arslan, during an interview with a television channel, made important clarifications regarding the large scale projects currently underway or planned to be realized utilizing the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. Bakan Arslan stated that the Turkey Asset Fund criticized for the transfer of Public Companies will provide financing for these very large scale projects. Arslan stated that "In providing resources for many of the large scale projects our country is realizing, Asset Fund will make funds available with much better conditions in comparison to classical, run-of-the-mill commercial loans.” Adding that the route for Canal Istanbul is set and it is going to be 42-43 km long, Minister Arslan said “We may kick off the Canal Istanbul Project within the year. Canal Istanbul route is set. It is going to be 42-43 km long. This is not a project that may be concluded in 3-4 years like the other small projects.
