August 2016 Unemployment is 11.3 Percent

Unemployment in August 2016 reached its peak since February 2015 with 11.3 percent. Unemployment in young population reached 20 percent

Turkey Statistics Institute (TÜİK) announced August 2016 unemployment numbers. Accordingly, unemployment in August 2016 reached its peak since February 2015 with 11.3 percent.

In accordance with TÜİK data, in Turkey, number of unemployed people from among those of 15 years of age or older increased by 435 thousand people in August 2016 in comparison with the same month of the previous year and reached a total of 3 million 493 thousand people. Unemployment increased by 1.2 points and reached 11.3 percent. Within the same period, unemployment outside of agriculture was estimated to be 13.7 percent with an increase of 1.3 points.

Unemployment in young population reached 20 percent

Unemployment in young population (ages 15-24) reached 19.9 percent with an increase of 1.6 points. Unemployment for the 15-64 age group increased by 1.2 points to reach 11.5 percent.

Workforce increased by 759 thousand people in August 2016 in comparison with the same month of the previous year to reach 30 million 967 thousand people. Accession to workforce increased by 0.5 points to reach 52.6 percent. In August 2016, ratio of the employees without any social insurance organisation involvement decreased by 0.5 points in comparison with the same month of the previous year and reached 34.6 percent.
