Furio Rossi, the Managing Director of Bombardier Transportation in Turkey made disclosures on Turkey’s potential in the rail system field during the Trade Fair and said that they are ready to provide all kinds of infrastructure in the best manner as Bombardier Transportation, to cover Turkey’s needs in the technology transfer process in the field

Furio Rossi, the Managing Director of Bombardier Transportation in Turkey made disclosures on Turkey’s potential in the rail system field during InnoTrans 2016 International Trade Fair for Transport Technology organized in Berlin, Germany.

Furio Rossi noting that technology transfer is of utmost importance for Turkey, said “Turkey has the potential of becoming one of the producer countries in the rail system field by means of a successful technology transfer.”

Rossi said that the company took its first responsibility in Turkey in Istanbul in 1985 and then in 1996 for Ankara metro system stating that Izmir metro was delivered in 2005. Rossi stating that they have supplied 55 innovative Flexity tramcars for Istanbul and high chassis tramcars for Bursa, reminded that the delivery for Istanbul was finalized in 2004 and the delivery for Bursa in 2011.

Rossi made the following statement: “Bombardier also constructed prestigious light rail systems in Adana in 2010, in Eskişehir in 2004 and in Izmir in 1998. City centers were successfully connected to the suburbs in a successful manner by means of these projects. Bombardier Transportation supplies signaling and railway traffic management solutions in recent years that provide higher capacity and safety in railway traffic in Turkey. Irmak-Zonguldak main line signaling facilities and Üsküdar-Ümraniye metro line signaling facilities are among ongoing works of the company.”

Rossi noting that they have formed a partnership with Bozankaya in Turkey for the production of high speed trains, said that the partnership in question will create job opportunities for around 5000 people.

Rossi stating that major municipalities in Turkey are facing the necessity of minimizing traffic density and pollution by developing new metro and tramcar lines, said “We have witnessed major positive changes in relation with the status of the rail system market in Turkey.”

“We want to support Turkey with the best possible products”

Furio Rossi noting that the two main advantages of the high speed trains and metro vehicles of Bombardier are their proven designs for commercial service and high level innovative technologies of the vehicles, continued as follows:

“Let us take Zefiro high speed train as an example which we have offered for Turkey. This product features technologies that provide high capacity, reliability and performance at incredible levels which makes it unique. Trains stay in service for a period of more than 30 years and we design our vehicles by taking into account the operational costs within the given period. We are minimizing energy consumption and try to maximize maintenance capabilities and efficiency. These are eventually high added values for our customers and railway operators. We have witnessed major positive changes in relation with the status of the rail system market in Turkey compared to other countries where Bombardier has activities. We want to support Turkey with the best possible products.”

Bombardier Transportation plans to invest around $ 100 million in Turkey

TALENT 3 trains which have been launched by Bombardier Transportation most recently are also targeted to be on rail in Turkey. Rossi said, “We plan to make an investment of around $ 100 million in Turkey including a brand new production plant in Ankara within the framework of our partnership of Bombardier and Bozankaya if we are selected by TCDD in the approaching tender for 80 high speed trains. We have initiated our investments in the plant located in Ankara Sincan together with Bozankaya.”

Bombardier Transportation President Laurent Troger made the following statement replying a question why Turkey has to select Bombardier for high speed trains:

“To begin with, we are a company that brings forth solutions for inner-city rail systems in big and major cities of a number of countries, as the world’s largest high speed train manufacturer. We already have activities in Germany, France, China and Spain. We are developing a new project for Saudi Arabia. We have great experience in rail systems. As a second factor, Bombardier is a company which is quite easy and practical to work with. We are aware that the Turkish Government attributes great importance to working jointly with a local producer for high speed trains. Bombardier claims the most developed technology in the field among its rivals. We can provide a technology transfer to Turkey in this sense. And the last but not the least, Bombardier is a long-term partner. We are in the rail system business since years. We are waiting for the details of the new high speed train tender in Turkey.”
